Our Process

The Main Furniture Company prides itself on the quality of workmanship that goes into creating each individual piece. There are a number of different processes that are involved in creating our lasting furniture. The reclaimed range obviously has a few more processes than our other ranges, wood has to be sourced from old mills, factories and schools, this wood is carefully selected and extracted ensuring only the premium quality pieces are used during the manufacturing process. Once the wood reaches the Main Furniture Company it is sorted into tops, sides and internals, it is then de-nailed, edged, sashed up in cramps overnight creating strong boards, these are then planed to the desired thickness then sanded to a smooth finish.  After the initial processing the wood is then dipped in a antique stain, this has been aged over the last thirty years, like a well balanced brandy or cognac, there is no stain on the market that can be matched to the one used at The Main Furniture Company. Furthering this most of this wood is between 50 and 100 years old, adding immeasurable character and history to each individual piece. The boards are then dried and made ready for construction, each piece individually handmade, from tables to country dressers. Once the pieces have been constructed they are then sanded again, and ready for hand finishing either, hand painted, waxed or oiled. Finally the doors are hung, tops put on, knobs and catches put on appropriate pieces and a final quality check is undertaken before the piece is ready to enjoy another century of living.

The Main Furniture company also constructs furniture from solid oak, which is finished in a hard wax oil bringing the beautiful grain to life. At The Main Furniture Company, anything is possible!
